Academic Advising
The Academic Advisors at Eleanor Roosevelt College are available to meet with students during Drop-In Advising and appointments. See the guide below to help you in determining the best way to contact us.
Virtual Advising Center (VAC)- Available 24/7
Current students can submit a brief question 24 hours a day through the Ask a Question tab in the Virtual Advising Center. An advisor will respond within three working days (and often sooner).
Important note: Response times may exceed three working days during enrollment periods and/or observed campus closures.
Drop-in Advising
Drop-in visits for current students are designed to last 10-15 minutes to ask quick questions of your advisors. These topics may include, but are not limited to:
- Degree audit checks and corrections
- Review of current course schedule
- Review and signing of forms including those from Programs Abroad, Financial Aid, and International Students and Programs Office
- Enrollment questions
- Academic questions not involving a long-term plan
Please use the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) if you have questions.
Zoom Drop-In Advising: Please go to the Meet with Advisor tab in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC) to sign-in and receive a zoom link to meet with your academic counselor.
Appointments
Appointments are available for current students in 30 minute increments. Appointments are not available during Week 1 and during the enrollment period as we increase drop-in advising availability for all students during these weeks. See the advising services calendar below for weekly availability. Typical matters for appointments include:
- In-depth exploration of major options
- Development of a long-term plans
- Academic difficulty and/or other matters which may require a referral
- Discussion of experiential opportunities (internships, research, etc.)
To schedule an appointment, go to the Meet with Advisor tab in the Virtual Advising Center (VAC), select Eleanor Roosevelt College, and click on the schedule appointment link.
***NOTE: New students who enter as first year students should wait until Winter quarter to schedule a long-term planning appointment so that we can help you create a realistic and more accurate plan. All students should meet with their major department before scheduling with ERC. See our Creating an Academic Plan guide to get started.**
Petitions
ERC General Education Petitions:
Courses taken at another institution, or UCSD courses not on the GE approved course lists may be considered for a GE requirement or missing IGETC/GE Area by petition.
Please first run a new degree audit to verify that the course you are petitioning is not already counting for the GE requirement. Some transfer courses may automatically pick up for the appropriate GE if the course code or title meets certain criteria or if equivalent to an approved UCSD course.
Proceed to the respective online GE petition form:
- ERC General Education Petition
- Natural Science, Quantitative & Formal Skills, Language and Fine Arts + Missing IGETC/GE Area
- Regional Specialization GE Petition
- Upper-division Writing GE Petition
*To access the petitions, you must be signed in to Microsoft Online using your UCSD student email through Single Sign-On.
Petitioning a Study Abroad Course? Be aware that we are unable to provide pre-approvals for study abroad courses. You may still submit your course information for a pre-screening, if you would like to receive guidance on whether it seems the course contents may be applicable to a GE.
Feedback provided does not constitute guaranteed approval. You will need to petition the course after it is posted to your Academic History for a final determination.
Please allow up to 10 business days for your request to be reviewed. We kindly ask that you refrain from requesting a status update prior to this timeline. If your request is time-sensitive, there is a space where you can include context to your situation within the form.
If you have any questions or issues with the petition forms, please contact us via VAC.
